Accommodation

In Australia all types of accomodation are available to suit all needs, everything from luxury hotels, self-contained apartments, B&B's, farmstays to private beach houses, budget hotels and camping grounds.

Hotels are graded using the star system, five star for luxury, down to two star which is basic. However, do not expect the "real luxury" here, not even close to that of Turkey or Greece. Even 5 star hotels offer just comfortable stay, without any gloss or glamour. Beds, though, will be of highest quality, perfect to relax after a busy day.

Anyway, first think about location. There is a myth, that all Australian cities are on the coast and accommodation is always close to the beach. On the contrary, there are few cities to boast this luxury, for example, Perth in Western Australia or Gold Coast in Queensland.

Accommodation in Western Australia

City Hotels

Recently a lot of modern hotels have been built in the city of Perth, some of them overlooking the Swan River. They are the best option for business people and short stays, for sport funs and city walkers. They offer comfortable conditions, eating facilities on the first floor as a rule and decorous service. Pease mind you will stay quite far from the beach.

Continental breakfast is $15+

From $150 per night for a basic room

Beach Hotels

In Western Australia it is quite difficult to find a good beach hotel at a reasonable price. Most of them are not that good and overpriced. You will not find all-inclusive luxury resorts here, either. If you think "beach hotel" means actually-located-on-the-beach one, with several pools, pool bars and night discos - forget it too. No animation, no shows, no kids' clubs. No hotel beach, no free towels, no sunbeds. At least, so far.

Most people prefer to stay in private beach houses and enjoy wild-style holiday, most of the youngsters use them as the base for surfing and other water sports.

Beach hotel in WA means close to the beach. That's it. Anyway, magnificent sunsets and relaxed atmosphere are guaranteed.

Motels and Country Hotels

Most of the hotels outside the city are self-contained 3-4 star motels, rather modest but clean and spacious, with sufficient cooking facilities. Some of them might have a tiny outside pool and even overnight service. Eating facilities usually include a small restaurant or a roadside tavern with a basic menu. You should only choose a hotel cheaper than $100 provided you have been there before and know what to expect.
